From the English dictionary:
Worth: the level at which someone or something deserves to be valued or rated
Don’t we deserve everything? Anything?
We’re all deserving and yet there’s this word, “value,” that I want to bring to you today in terms of owning your worth.
I have a mentor, Dr. John DeMartini, who says, “when you live according to your highest values, you become inspired to awaken your genius.”
Here’s how you find out what you value: TIME!
Your time = Your values
Look at what you’re spending your time on. Your time is directly related to what you value in your life.
What you spend your time on is what you value. If you value something or want to value something in your life, you simply need to shift time to doing what you value.
Once you figure out what you value, this will keep your motivation and your inspiration going.
How do I own my worth in the world? I choose to do that which most inspires me and hire others to do the rest.
What does it mean to win your worth in the world, based upon your highest values?
Here is an example…
I’ve always been active in my life and loved to play. There was a time in my life when I was very unhappy. I was overeating and drinking a lot. I gained weight. I had very high blood pressure. I was on very high doses of blood pressure medication in my early 30s. I had sciatica pain and it was very difficult to walk, sit and drive.
I knew I was very unhappy with my life even though I had moments of happiness here and there. I wasn’t taking care of my body.
That very same year, I went to yoga class for 42 days in a row. I chose to commit to my body and have ever since. Now, I am very aware of what I put in my mouth, the way that I move my body, and my lifestyle routines.
Choosing to value my body means choosing to spend TIME with my body. This has helped me maintain a healthy wealth, live pain-free, and be on zero medications. I have also been able to create a huge level of compassion for myself and others through my commitment to TIME with my heart.
If you take care of yourself first, others will take care of you.
If you value yourself first, if you own your own worth - your body, the vessel that your soul resides in - you are more likely to be valued everywhere else in your life. The body is the highest value of anything we own.
If you feel that your body is the highest value, I will show you how to take care of it.
We can talk about diet and exercise, but it’s more than that.
Think of 3 things:
Build a level of compassion. Use your mind to direct your breath to touch your heart. That’s how you build compassion.
Valuing Your Mind
Be accountable for your mind.
Figure out if your thoughts bring you 1.) wellbeing or 2.) bring you down.
Do your thoughts make you feel overwhelmed? Stuck? Confused?
If you don’t already know this, you have control of your thoughts.
Your thoughts mold the shape of your body. If something is going on with your body, it’s simply because there is a misaligned thought in your life.
When you are accountable for your thoughts and spend TIME on actions that create compassion, you will be healthier, happier, and easier to connect with.
Focus your thoughts towards the direction of your highest values. If you don’t, you’ll feel scattered and undervalued. When you take actions towards your dream and your highest values, you’re going to feel like you’re owning your worth in the world, even if it looks different than somebody else’s actions.
What does it mean to own your worth in the marketplace?
Own your worth by doing what you love in the world and getting paid for it.
You may be a business owner; you may be a mom or have a career. Whoever you are, whatever you’re doing or creating in the world, ask yourself:
For example, after teaching environmental policy at The Ohio State University, I realized that I wasn’t in alignment with being in academia anymore. I wasn’t happy. So, I had to leave my career to find the right direction for what I wanted to create in the world.
First, I got into Yoga, then I got into business. Now, I bridge movement with business and I love what I do. I get to serve clients all over the world and meet people from all these places.
I charge for what I do because I know what I teach creates results.
Do what you love and get rewarded for it—even if it’s not money. Whatever you do in your household or community, you need to get rewarded for it.
Giving endlessly without receiving is a recipe for unhappiness, resentment, and degraded health in the future.
If you’re a business owner, ask yourself:
Learn your patterns.
What do you want?
What’s stopping you from the success in relationships you want?
Create positive experiences with people.
Once you figure out what you value in relationships, take actions that align you with the people that elevate you. Be with people that bring you up and not down.
How do you know the right people for you? Pay attention to how you feel and your body will tell you.
You may have to learn some non-violent communication skills so that you can learn how to speak kindly, but also speak your boundaries, your needs, your desires, your wants. You may want to learn about how men and women communicate differently. You may want to learn about different learning styles so you can teach people more easily.
Communication is the number one factor contributing to successful relationships.
Boundaries are not about just putting a wall up so nobody can get in. Boundaries are also about putting a boundary on yourself to say, “I’m gonna let the wall down and let people in when I know they are the right people.” Boundaries can keep people out, but also welcome the right people in.
If you need help with any part of your life, reach out to people! Ask for help.
